Recently purchased a Kamado Joe, and I want to cook a pizza on it tonight. Do I need to buy a brand name stone from Kamado Joe/Green Egg, or can I purchase a cheaper off brand?

A buddy told me his off brand cracked after using it a couple of times. Anyone have any recommendations?

The difference is the size, I've bought the BGE brand for my egg because most of the stones are too big and it cuts the air down so the Egg doesn't get hot enough. I try to cook pizzas at 700 or higher. $50 ouch.

Good point. I didn't think of this. Thanks for the tip.

buy the primo one. it's glazed and awesome

ETA: Also, 700 is pretty high. I cooked at 500* last weekend and to get all the cheese melted and the toppings a little cooked, the crust was a tad burnt.

I bought an Emile Henry and really liked it. You can get them most anywhere, Sur La Table, WS, etc., but Amazon will have them for much cheaper sometimes.

FWIW mine broke, but I think it was a freak accident more than a quality issue. Held up fine on the egg.
