I used the same recipe as you for my first time, but ended up cooking them down longer than the recipe suggests because I wanted them to thicken up.

Here's my first attempt for reference:

I generally use canned red beans just because the prep and cook time when I make red beans usually takes 2 hours or so so the canned beans save some time. I heard good things about Blue Runner from this board but didn't care for them when I tried them in my red beans. I like to cook my beans down to a thickness, the blue runners are pretty thick out of the can and just ended up way to thick after cooking.
