The Big Apple Chinese place had closed a while ago. There was an influx of Chinese buffets in that area after katrina with all the workers in town and all. But several of those types of places had closed and a lot of little cafes and bistros have popped up in their place in slidell. But I'm pretty sure pancho's will have pretty good success right there.

Trust me. The amount of business they receive from me will be enough to keep them in business
I'm not a fan of big apple, but yeah i had a good friend whose family worked there. Dunno how he's since high school but I hope they're alright.
Golden dragon is alright but I just hate Chinese food

FWIW Slidell actually had a great Pancho's in the early 90's. You'd have to drive to the Cutoff in Algiers, and take the Slidell ferry.
I'd go there with a Mexican family I was friends with, they only went to the Slidell location because it oddly had a mostly Mexican staff back then.
When did that location close?

I've lived in Slidell my whole life and I had no idea we ever had one... I've only been alive since 1989 though.
I just asked my mom if we had one in the early 90s and she goes "uhhhh we had a pancho's?"
Not saying you're wrong but you sure it was pancho's? Sure it was Slidell? Didn't know we had a ferry either

Whoops, I'm thinking of Chalmette.

Pretty fricking lame IMO.
It's not about fine dining. It's about good food, and Panchos isn't even close to good food.
Yeah, I slummed at Panchos in college when we used to get something like twelve tacos for five bucks or something like that, but I didn't know shite from food back then, so I can understand the twenty somethings hanging out there filling their bellys, but what I don't get is someone past 30, and yet I've seen them actually waiting in line outside the door at the one off Siegen before, and it blows my mind that a grown man or woman is not only sad enough to eat crap food, but they are willing to stand in freaking line outside the door in the hot sun too.

That's subjective, though.
I think Serranos and Superior Grill blow. But I wouldn't want either of them to shut down just because it isn't what I consider to be good food. Just because you close down a chain restaurant, that doesn't mean those patrons will all flock to a local eatery instead.
If anything, I can make the argument that sub-par Tex-Mex places are awesome because they give us a point of comparison when we go to places like Coyote Blues.

Its pretty close to my house, and I hope for something else to replace it. It needs to move to Kenner where it belongs. I would hope something better would scoop up that real estate...so, yea, I hope it closes shop.
Do you know this fricking manager personally too?

Why not?
I am a firm believer in Capitalism. Produce or fail. It's your choice. That's how places who value food deal with failures. They run them out of business. They aren't victims. They are failures, and in it solely for the money. Their heart isn't in it.

Yes I do, actually.
I'm not an elitist like you. I go to a restaurant, I talk to the waiters, the busboys, the managers, the owners, and the cooks if I get the opportunity.

The Obama generation (Afreaux) does not agree.

Actually you aren't. You are a jackass snob that somehow thinks we should all be eating in only fancy expensive restaurants when we go out.
If people didn't like the taste, then Panchos would close. Not only is it not closing, it is thriving.
I'm not a fan of Panchos, but I have zero problem with people that love it. Mainly because I am not a pompous douche like the elitist snobs that love to talk down to people on a web site.

Its not thriving bc the food is just that bad. That is capitalism isn't it?

His attitude is why he got put on blast in that 37-page TulaneLSU rant thread for everyone on the O-T to read.
Paul Allen knows who I am IRL, he knows why I would know all these Latin restaurant guys. Taking a jab at me won't change that, you're still an elitist food snob that isn't even a legit Crescent City resident.
