My mother bought a side of beef once from a butcher.

We had beef for months.

I can't eat chicken for a week or two after I drive through MS and see the trucks/cages. It's more due to the filth rather than how the chickens were treated. IMHO in the end the chicken is dead on my plate, I don't really think if it was a happy chicken or not.

A lot of what is labeled 'organic', 'natural' and 'free range' may be anything but. The larger the company affiliated with the produce, the more likely it's not as healthy as the label would like you to believe.

However, to say that there are no benefits to eating naturally produced foods instead of the factory farmed/genetically modified crap available at the grocery store is insane.

Best option is to grow your own. Next best would be to buy food from people you know and trust. 3rd would be organic from the store, and last would be what passes for regular food.

If you think pesticides, gmos, and growth hormones and antibiotics are good for human health, more power to you. However I would argue that such an opinion is based on willful ignorance rather than facts.

Once you start doing some real research into the subject matter you'll start to understand that you're being deceived, and that 99% of what the FDA says is 'safe' is pure bullshite -- FYI it's called regulatory capture -- look into it. Start with Aspartame and Donald Rumsfeld.

Penn and Teller as food experts? GMAFB.

Next you'll be telling me that eating refined carbs and plenty of sugar and HFCS is good for me.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Here's a good site with some 'report cards' on various organic products: LINK

The FDA is an unregulated federal agency.
In other words, they are not accountable to anyone.
There is no “watch-dog” making sure they aren’t corrupt.

So...there’s that to think about.

can be good and bad.

bad in that it can lead to health effects that can be detrimental to the chicken

good in that it keeps the cost down for you, the consumer

I can see that. I won't share how much I pay for chicken...its more than I want to pay, but the it keeps the wife happy. And at the end of the day its local and tastes great.

So you're telling me the free range or organic eggs are no better for you or taste better than the factory eggs? I always thought I found the free range eggs to be larger and better tasting. That may just be my mind playing tricks. Any feedback regarding that aspect?

Awesome, informative posts by the way.

It could be that they taste better because the higher price you pay messes with your perception.

Size has nothing to do with it.

As far as taste goes, I buy one brand and it happens to be free range. I can't say I like them bc they are free range though. More research is necessary.
