North La says, screw you guys, we roll our own way.

"Thurman’s Food Factory has been selling king cakes since December and said even though Fat Tuesday has come and gone, they’re not stopping.

“We've done a thousand or more," said Thurman Dickey the store owner.

For those that don’t know, king cakes have been a Mardi Gras tradition for centuries. They are eaten from January 6 on the Catholic Tradition “Epiphany” up until Mardi Gras.

Dickey said it’s more than just a sweet treat, it’s a start to the beginning of Lent. "

Just start changing the colors and sell them year round.

St. Patrick's Day, green and white
Easter - Pastel colors
LSU cakes pretty much year round
Red, White, Blue for Memorial Day and July 4th

Many south La places sell them year round. My co-worker had tried to get one shipped from Haydels last week and they were sold out of all of the pre-mardi gras shipping days so she is getting one shipped next Tuesday.
