I'm going to southern MI next month and want to make sure I make the most of it. I plan to go to Founders for a tour and tap room visit, but what others should I hunt down? Both for a visit and to buy to bring back?

We did a trip to Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and then the coast of Lake Michigan a couple years ago. Enjoyed the hell out of it. Grand Rapids was an awesome place.
We probably hit too many breweries, because we didn't enjoy all of them.
Coming from St Louis, Munster, IN, was on the way, so we kicked off the trip with Three Floyds.
From there we went straight to Kalamazoo, hit Bell's, which was great, and then Darkhorse about 30 minutes away. Darkhorse was a really cool place. We finished up the Kalamazoo night at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange.
Over the next couple days we did Founder's, Hop Cat, Hideaway, Perrin, Greyline, The Mitten, Elk, Brewery Vivant. (Italicized the ones I would go back to) We had dinner at Brewery Vivant and The Mitten.
On the way out of Grand Rapids we drove up to Muskegon and hit Pigeon Hill and Unruly. Not worth the trip all the way up there if you aren't already going. Then we drove down to Odd Side in Grand Haven, highly recommend if out that way.
From Grand Haven we drove down to Holland to hit Our Brewery and New Holland. We had dinner at New Holland. They were okay. New Holland didn't have anything you can't get on the shelf.
On the way home the next day we went to Saugatauk Brewing. Not a bad little hole in the wall brewery.
Like I said, we probably went to too many, but it was an awesome time, and I'd like to go back to most of them.

The GF is from Holland and her family has a place on Lake Michigan. It's effing beautiful on that side of the state. Obligatory pic (this one didn't have FBD in it, sorry).
New Holland will sometimes have some of their rare stuff that they don't bottle available in the brewpub. This last fall/winter they were selling their 20th anniversary, which is strong as shite and I really liked.
