Anyone shop at either of these stores? My wife was in management with Lucky's Market. Sad to see it go. Was a really unique grocery store.

There is an Earthfare in Athens. Always seems busy. Can't believe they're closing.

Hard not to like a grocery store where you can walk around drinking a beer while you shop right?

Why dey closing

Kroger had invested something like 250 million in them over the past few years. They were very aggressive in expansion. Opened to many store to fast and their margins suffered. Kroger divested in December and they filed bankruptcy . Their management was extremely top heavy and they were poorly run at the corporate level.

Earthfare here kind of died when a Whole Foods opened a few miles away. They had just put a Tesla charging station in the parking lot a few months ago too.

We're not big enough for a Trader Joe's but Columbia got a Luckys several years ago. Favorite grocery store bar none. If you're on a tight budget you can only buy stuff thats on sale and still get great quality produce and great house brand items, and if you have money to burn you can treat it as a Whole Foods lite. Being in the middle it is nice to drink a $2 craft beer while I shop and buy produce plus meat thats on sale.

We are lucky that our store is probably profitable and the couple who started Luckys is buying the store back through bankruptcy reorganization. Kroger really forked them over and opened way too many stores in places with too much competition.
