Looking for some San Fransisco eats

What kind of food are you into? There is such a wide variety that it's really hard to narrow down.

really open to anything. my moms picky so maybe some american suggestions

The Mission district has both cheap, ethnic restaurants and expensive, trendy restaurants. If you want some really good bacon, check out Sweet Maple, which is in Pacific Heights at the corner of Steiner and Sutter. I've never been to a steakhouse in San Francisco but have heard really good things about Bobo's. If you want really good sushi, then go to Zushi Puzzle. For really good seafood, go to Tadich. There are a lot of trendy, New American restaurants in SOMA, such as Town Hall. North Beach has a lot of Italian restaurants. There are probably some good places in Fisherman's Wharf, but it's way too touristy and likely overpriced. If you're looking for good-looking girls, hang out in the Marina. There you can find Tipsy Pig (soul food) or The Republic (which I hear is very good). If pizza's your thing, you can check out Star Pizza, Pizza Orgasmica (though I wouldn't feel comfortable taking my mom to a place named Pizza Orgasmica), or Delfina Pizzeria.

There are a ton of choices, and my list hardly begins to scratch the surface of what there is. If more choices come to mind, I'll be sure to include them.

Ate at Fifth Floor about two weeks ago, it was excellent on multiple levels. Top notch all around.

Slanted Door. Vietnamese, I liked the old location better, new one is too big, but food is still great.

Una Pizza Napoletana. Outstanding pizza, but not for everyone. LINK

Don Pisto's....for real... do not miss this.. their mexican sashimi is the mothertruckin' titz..

and hit El Farolito in the mission for the best burrito you will ever have..

I went a couple of weeks ago for the first time for work. EPIC was a great place to eat. Delfina pizza was awesome as well.

I've only been once, but I'll share my experience. keep in mind, I'm very, very limited as a food "critic". all the prices include a 20ish% tip and plenty of alcohol.

tadich grill (seafood) is a must. just a few blocks down nob hill. extremely cool place to be in. it has the neatest bar and table arrangements. we started with oysters Rockefeller that made me need to switch my pants. the new england chowder was one of the two best I've had in my life. I got the Chilean sea bass and it was massive and delicious. two of us - around $100

scoma's (seafood) right off the wharf is a landmark. the decor is like an old marina and it's very cramped. we had lunch there and I got a Caesar salad that was your standard, solid salad and the chowder that was the best I've ever had. my memory isn't good enough to describe it in detail, but I do remember wanting to take my pants off and run around the restaurant after tasting it. two of us - around $140

we had brunch one morning at olea a couple blocks from the top of nob hill. tiny, tiny place, but one of the, for lack of a better word, neatest places I've eaten at. there were 3 people in there, 2 servers and a cook, plus it was packed, but no one in the place had to look around and wait for a waiter. they were on top of everything. oh, and the breakfast was good: decent, organic egg breakfast, but the cappuccino made the walk uphill back to the hotel far more than worth it. two of us - about $50

also went to Gary danko, which was just your standard, fancy arse michelin rated place. expensive everything, 3, 4, and 5 course meals, all of them delicious and beautifully presented. the cheese course is where it's at though. I think I got to pick 5 and each was amazing, although I do love every single cheese there is. two of us - about $280

perfect time to see this thread...I'll be there in a few weeks and was already recommended house of nanking....can't wait.
