Zacapa and the Botran are good rums.
If I can find it I get Botran Solera 1893.
Supposedly, they are from the same distillery ???
**Crafted in Guatemala, Zacapa Rum is a work of art, and an expression of patience, richness, quality and master blending. Aged to perfection in the highlands of Quetzaltenango, Zacapa
**The Botran family is commonly known for sugarcane production in Guatemala, but in 1939 they decided to begin a journey by establishing Industria Licorera Quetzalteca
The Doorly's XO I mentioned earlier is smoother than either at $ 20 or less.
The Brugal Rum, mentioned above is not a bad rum...at a decent price, but not close to the Doorly's at a similar price point.
Suggested by another poster here in the Whiskey Thread, I tried Kirk & Sweeney ..
also exceptional.

The difference in white and dark rum has zero to do with age, dark rum has had low wines and molasses added to increase flavor and coloring. End of story
Not sure who came up with the BS you posted

not bad for a well drink, it is supposed to be the off brand from the puerto Rican Bacardi.
It's close to the $ 9 mark now.

I am more of a Bourbon guy but I did buy 8 bottles of the Havana Club 7 year while I was in the Caribbean. I haven't tried it yet. How does that one stack up?

It depends, if you bought the Puerto Rican Havana Club it will be very similar to the Castillo White and the Regular Castillo Gold....also similar to the regular Bacardi (white and gold)
The Cuban Havana Club would be a step or more above those.
The Bacardi Añejo and Bacardi Solera are Made in Mexico not PR and are better rums as the follow closer the original formulas from Bacardi Cuba.

I was at the duty free in the Punta Cana airport and I bought the Cuban Havana Club 7 year rum.

The Cuban Havana Club 7 is a good rum,but understand that most Cuban rums are not distilled to be consumed neat so it will have a slight "kick" to it.
Since you are a whiskey drinker, you will likely like it.
Let me know.

An underrated drink if there ever was one. Especially if it is dressed with enough Lime. Still prefer the Rum Old Fashioned with the right rum.

I have not developed the taste for club soda...
F de C is a very good rum.
I sometimes sub Ginger Ale when something calls for C Soda

I know you all may kill me here, but how is good rum supposed to be enjoyed? Any recipes or ideas? Every time I have rum, it is in some fruity boat drink or like this (and not to be consumed
)

LINK to Rums
Here is a short Bio of Rums.
Different Rums are distilled for different ways of drinking them.
i.e. Cuban rums are usually intended to be mixed with Coke, or Mojitos, or ..
Barbados Rums are smoother and great neat.
A lot of the other rums, Guatemala, Nicaragua, etc. each have their own personality ... think of them as Whiskey and find your taste.
FRUITY drinks are a vacation drink or party drink, not usually what most Rum drinkers drink.
Spiced rums, are popular, well advertised but also not classified as great rums by many ... except the original one Appleton Reserve.
What do you normally drink ? how ?
