I would say if it was already refridgerated and then left out, toss it. If it has never been refridgerated it's fine. But mayo is cheap so no since taking chance. Once you've had food poisoning , you never want it again, i promise you that.

It had been refidgerated then left out... I decided not to give my husband food poisoning and scraped the other bottle for his sandwich last night. I'm tosiing them both out today-he'll thank me later.

I wouldn't keep mayo if I left it out of the fridge overnight, but I will keep soy sauce and ketchup. But only if it was one night. Any longer and I would toss the soy sauce and ketchup.

Really? I never refrigerate soy sauce. I keep it in the cabinet with the vinegar and oil. I just checked my bottle and it doesn't even have a 'refrigerate after opening' warning.

what about peanut butter, do you put that in the fridge? I used to not do so, but now I do for some reason...

Once when I was younger we had a small moth infestation for about a month. Well I go to opened up a peanut butter jar and it was filled with maggots. Not sure how they got under the lid but it was disgusting. I've been putting pb in the fridge ever since. It does make it hard to smear though.

I thought the main reason was to keep the oil from completely separating. Not really necessary with ordinary Jif-style PB.

I would love to hear this explanation. Why in the world does it matter if it was in the fridge first?
