Komado grill heat deflector

Anybody use a paella pan as a heat deflector??

Thinking of something like this






Do you also need a pizza stone on top of that if smoking meat?

That'll work. No, not necessary to use a pizza stone unless you can't keep a low temp. Heck, a sheet of heavy duty foil works as a diffuser. Paella pan is an expensive pan to use though.

Its $20 on Amazon. Only thing I'm worried about it not having enough space for a drip pan but I guess the pan can just catch that too?

Explain just using aluminium foil like you wrap the firebox with foil???

just double or triple up a sheet and put it on the main grate below the elevated grate
or jam a cheap aluminum lasagna pan down in the bowl above the coals

You might see here where the foil is on a lower grate beneath the upper grate cooking a meatloaf.

I'd worry about the rubber handles. I have a lower grate that I put this from Academy on. I also sear steaks directly on it:
