in your opinion, who has the best king cakes in baton rouge???

Ambrosia.

I don't know why anyone even mentions those doughnut "King Cakes". That's like asking who makes the best roast beef, corned beef and turkey gravy muffuletta.

Can you go over there and just pick one up? Or do you have to special order it or something. Cause when I looked on the website it said something about ordering 48 hours in advance of getting or something like that.

No, you can just walk in and pick one up.

I would LOVE a king cake brought fresh from LA.

I'll try and remember next trip. I only buy Jays.

Cause people want the best. They had a contest one year( I'll try and ask Jay what year this was), guess which king cake won? Jays. Yea, everyone was shocked when the card was turned over to reveal Jays Donuts had made it.
So I guess all the people that were judges, loved the "Doughnut King Cakes?"

Per Nick's comment, you can pick them up. If you want to guarantee that a specialty King Cake is available, though, you'll want to call in advance.

Ambrosia makes a Zulu King Cake, which is a traditional King Cake but stuffed with cream cheese and chocolate chips, topped with a rich dark chocolate glaze and shredded coconut. It's excellent beyond words, and subsequently hard to get your hands on considering how quickly they fly off the shelf.

So while I stay loyal to cream cheese and raspberry King Cakes with the traditional toppings, I can't go through parade season without at least one Zulu King Cake from Ambrosia.
