I am always thankful. However, looking at the harvest festival from a culinary perspective, I would be happy-happy-happy if everyday was turkey day.

Last week, I used making a treat for my 92 YO mom as a just-for-her reason to do a pre-Thanksgiving run. Heaven on a plate!

Anyone here planning on making a Thanksgiving meal?

Here are a couple of mood setting photos.

What will be on your menu?

My grandmother has not been doing well recently, and I'm thinking this may be my year to take the cornbread dressing torch from her. Hers is so good I have even had her made it for my birthday in August

Sounds like a great reason to cook side by side w/Granny. Learn her secrets while you can. Damn, I love cornbread dressing.

Looks good! We will be smoking a picnic ham, roasting a small turkey, carrot soufflé, cornbread dressing, rice dressing, green bean casserole, homemade Popeyes biscuits, gravy, and cranberry salad. I am already ready for a nap.

Is that a Ginger Peach cake? It looks good.

Ginger Peach Cake?

No. It is and Arkansas Black Apple upside down (spice) cake. The only special thing about Arkansas Black Apples is they are relatively dense and stay solid when cooked. You could also use Granny Smith or one of the other "Apple Pie Apples" with good results.

If you do a pineapple upside down cake with apples and a spice cake base you have it.

That's the same idea as the Ginger Peach cake...it uses a boxed gingerbread mix and peaches instead of pineapple.
