New Orleans restaurant asks white patrons to pay more..

According to Civil Eats, the pop-up called Saartj gives white customers — and only white customers — the option to pay "$12 for lunch or the suggested price of $30" while black customers are "charged $12 and also given the option to collect the $18 paid by a white patron as a way to redistribute wealth."

OT thread earlier in the week

He doesn't actually charge anyone the $30.

I don't know where they found the info that the $18 can be collected by the black population.

In my experience very few white people eat there anyway.

It has nothing to do with wealth redistribution, just wage gap.

Meh. While I can understand raising awareness on income equality and a disparity in pay, I question this as a “research” project with university sponsorship. Did someone really need to do research to find out that wypipo don’t want to pay more for their food, or that bringing up issues of race and income during an otherwise unrelated transaction will make some folks uncomfortable? Or that people don’t want to be confronted with issues during a workday lunch?

It’s also way too broad brush and simplistic to talk about income and race alone: substitute educational levels for race and you’re talking about the same disparities.

When I read the article, I focused more on that plate of food not being worth $12 to anyone, regardless of color or creed.

He charges 12 and asks you if you want to pay $18 more.

If it's worth $12, why would anyone pay $18 more?

Pass. I'll spend my money at a restaurant not conducting a "social experiment"

Not sure which is more offensive: charging Whitey more, or having Whitey pay for the opportunity to listen to the viewpoints.

The idea sounds pretty good actually, other than the monetary part.

In general, people don't want to hear others opinions much less pay to hear them.

I want a report on the SJW's and other libtards who threw their money at this place.

If no one showed up then it just proves how irrelevant they are.

I wonder the percentage of black folks accepting the $18? I'd say probably 100.

Is it just the owner pocketing the money or does he donate it to something?

If white people pay more, he offers it to his black patrons.. but what happens if there aren't enough $18 shares to go around? How does he distribute what he has? Are the other black patrons any less deserving because there wasn't an $18 for them? Safe to say he's probably not going in his own pocket to subsidize.
