This depends on a number of factors, just like pot/burner combinations vary in the amount of time it takes to bring water to a boil. The btu output of the burner, the efficiency of the burner, the part of the flame that hits the pot, the thickness of the aluminum in the pot - all those things are going to affect the time it takes to melt it. And unless you sit and time it, you won't ever really know. As far as a minute being a "long arse time" just ask your wife for her opinion on that.
