First off I am really lazy and I don't like watching/ messing with a pot of hot crawfish. I like to drink beer, visit, and not sweat. So here's how I do it any it is turns out pretty good. Put small potatoes in a mesh bag and add to heating water. Just before it starts to boil add one 4.5 lb bag, 8 oz liquid and about a cup of cayanne pepper. Let boil for a couple of minutes. But don't let boil too much as it will boil over and then makes a mess( work to clean up remember I am lazy. Avoid extra work). Then add crawfish to boiling water with whole onions mixed in. Put the top on and walk away for 15 minutes. It doesn't matter how long it boils. After 15 minutes turn fire off and take top off and leave off. Stir a little. Go drink another beer and visit. After 5 minutes add corn and mushrooms and stir them under the water. Go drink another beer and visit more. 10 minutes later go taste a crawfish. Either they are ready or give it another 5, repeat every 5 minutes until done. FWIW. 20 to 25 people up north probably will not eat very many crawfish. Usually give up after a dozen or so. 50 lbs might be enough

Here are some tips that were not mentioned:
Do not forget to wash them! Several times they need to be washed to get all the mud off.
Bring the water to a boil, then put in your potatoes/garlic/onions/lemons if you are using those. And any other vegetables. Put them in the sack that the potatoes or onions came in. Boil it for a few minutes before you put the crawfish in.
Take the sack out, put the crawfish cage in, put the sack back on top and as soon as it boils, cut the heat off. Wait 10 minutes or so. Now put in frozen ears of corn-they will cook quick and also cool off the pot. This is how you get perfect corn imo. Let soak another 30 minutes, until the crawfish start to sink. Then they are done!
Empty the vegetables into the pot for a good effect when you dump it on the table.

I say that because everyone's burner is different. If someone says bring them back to a boil and boil for x minutes then soak for x minutes well how long were they cooking before the water actually started boiling? It might take my burner 15 minutes to bring them back to boil where yours takes 10 minutes. I think that when they are in the water with the burner on full blast they are cooking even if the water is not boiling. This way I know 15 minutes and I am done. Don't have to babysit the pot or add or subtract time etc.

Lots of shite going on in here!
Was hoping to learn, now I see I've got to discern, then learn.
Well, at least I'm clear on the bay leaf.

Invite 5 people from Louisiana and start getting your pot ready. As you add stuff to the pot, all 5 will tell you how stupid you are, at this point it doesn't matter what you do. You have an official crawfish boil!
All jokes aside. Clean the crawfish, add the sack seasoning Louisiana, Zat, or whatever else you got, add liquid to adjust heat, put potatoes in till done, put in crawfish, bring to boil, shut it off, throw in frozen corn, and soak till they are the way you like them.
It ain't hard, most people do it drunk just fine

You need an oversized Cajun man to tell you what to do, and to tell you "its cuz you hard headed, boy!" when you mess up.
Under his guidance you will have perfect crawfish.
