yes, but it's all cultural. What if you just stopped tipping because you don't have to? The same is true of water. The business model for restaurans in the US is generally like this.

also very true. we all tend to settle into comfort of not paying for something. who would think we would pay for bottled water in the masses we do today. With restaurants fighting for every dollar from customers this could be a trend in the future.

I noticed when looking at a vacation to Iceland they said that tipping is accepted, but not expected. they said that waiters/waitresses understood the concept, but were not reliant on it.
