Going to Houston in a couple weeks for work, will prob be staying close to Toypta center which I believe is down town Houston? Although that’s not set in stone yet. I’d like to check out their Asian scene, some authentic Mexican, possibly a higher end steakhouse one night, and possibly something gastropubby ish with new age dishes but open to any cant miss places. Thank you in advance

some authentic Mexican
Hugos for Mexican. Original ninfas or el tiempo for tex mex.

B&b butchers. Georgia James is the new "hot" steak place. There are so many good steaks in this town, it's difficult to find agreement on the best.

I'll defer to Offshoreangler, and others, for that suggestion.
Other hot places: 1/5th Mediterranean, Theodore rex, Nancy's hustle, BB lemons, killens STQ.
I've been sitting here looking for anniversary restaurants on Saturday in the downtown, Midtown, or Montrose areas. So I'll be watching what others suggest as well.

Ole baw from Dequincy, LA has made it big with Ibiza’s in that area. I’ve been twice and have been impressed both.

I did try to search in my defense on the site, but kept getting the stop sign

Yeah I tried to search earlier and did too. Google is probably better though

UB Preserv, Nancy’s Hustle and Nobie’s are currently on my can’t miss list of places in Houston.

Huynh is located right by Minute Maid and has excellent Vietnamese food. Casual and BYOB with a small cork fee

Have you been to Kulture, or The Rustic?

Just went there for the first time a few weeks ago and was really impressed. Get the Duck two ways.
Brenner's on the Bayou is a cool place if you're looking for a steakhouse

authentic Mexican
If you want just authentic street tacos go to Tacos Tierra Caliente. It's a small food truck and you can take your food into the bar across the street and grab a beer. Don't expect anything fancy if you decide to try it. Its more of a chill laid back spot.

Pappas, mastros, steak 48 are all good options but bring your wallet.

I definitely would pick a different steakhouse over B&B. Pappas Bros is really good. I just did Georgia James and thought it was great. Killen's STQ is another good one.
I've had B&B prob 4 times and it's never wowed me. 2 times were restaurant week deals and others were regular menu.
You can add Xochi for fancy authentic Mexican.
I'm partial to El Tiempo for tex-mex. That carne asada la Tana

Andes Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants here. South American cuisine. It's just north of the Toyota Center on the other side of 59.

Steakhouse: B&B Butchers
Tex Mex: el Tiempo
Have not been to Nancy’s Hustle but there is always a crowd (down the street from me) and have heard great things.
Agree Huynh’s is good also.

Add Xochi and Picos to this list. All three excellent choices.

That Ibiza menu looks damn good. I may have to give it a shot on Saturday.

It's more causal but Oporto Fooding House is pretty damn good if you're looking for small plates.

Yep...went a few weeks ago on a Sunday for brunch. Cool space-wouldn't mind seeing a show there on a nice evening/night, decent food, will attract the square toe cowboy boot crowd from the burbs fa sho.
