Looking for the closest thing to a Gene’s hot sausage that I can find. That means patties, not links. Any suggestions?

Rocco's on Drusilla has a good one. I think its called Smoking Bert's Hot Sausage Po Boy. Its a patty not links.

Went out today to a variety of places so that I could perform a taste test. I planned on getting one at Rocco’s too but it was 14 bucks and some change so I canceled the order. Here’s how I would rate the ones I had:

1. Andrew Food Mart
2. Uncle E’s
3. New Orleans Poboys & Gyros
4. Acme Oyster House
5. Tim’s Poboys

None of them came anywhere close to Gene’s though. Now I have a bunch of mediocre half-eaten poboys in my fridge. Oh well, my quest continues...

After I suggested Rocco’s I went there for lunch on Friday. I got the Smoking Berts Hot Sausage PoBoy. It was good. I am not familiar with Gene’s and I don’t know how it will compare but I enjoyed it. $14 is high but you can get a half for $8 or $9. For taste test purposes should be perfect.

Rocco's isn't bad at all, but it's not what the OP is looking for. Unfortunately, I haven't found a hot sausage po-boy in BR that is what the OP is looking for... have to make a trip home to get it right.

I live a few blocks from Gene's. They use Patton's hot sausage patties, which are available in some Rouse's in the frozen food section (they come in a plastic bucket). And, it doesn't cost $14 for a poboy at Gene's.

Call around to the grocery stores in your area and ask for Patton's hot sausage patties.

Mandeville Seafood uses Pattons as well for their hot sausage poboy. I add fried shrimp, which they do to perfection, and it's my favorite poboy anywhere.
