Get a Lang reverse flow, offset smoker, and never look back. Will last forever, if you take care of it, and once you master it, will provide you with quality smoked meats.

All true. Not sure if it is a first pit. Kind of like giving a high school kid a BMW 5-series

Yeah. A little more than I planned on spending. Probably save this one for down the road, if I get into bigger cooks.

@The Spleen

I hear you regarding the learning curve but every cooking device on the planet has a learning curve. I think the WSM is one of the easiest cooking device I have used. As someone else mentioned, the number of Youtube videos about use of the WSM is unmatched. You can cut the learning curve by 80% with two hours on Youtube. The same can't be said about them all.

Anyhow, the WSM isn't the last word in smokers since there are many very good cookers available. However, I cannot recommend it enough for first-timers or experienced cooks who want a set-and-forget smoker. It's not entirely interaction-free but it is darn close. I am about to purchase a larger offset smoker so I can cook more meat at one time but I will continue to use my WSM regularly. It's just easy.

All true. I only said that because I bought it with the thinking it was a set-it-and-forget-it smoker, and it ended up taking me 5-10 cooks on it before it was that. I did skip the YouTube thing, though I did watch a few. Just not enough to really learn the thing, but I'm a trial and error guy anyway. For someone that smokes for the family once a month or so, I don't think you can do much better than the WSM. Once you get your process dialed in, it churns out fantastic meat.

Another vote for WSM. They do make hanging racks that you can use if you want more space for ribs. My favorite way to cook ribs and chicken now.

Bronco comes with the hardware to hang 9 racks of ribs

Yeah, that's the other thing with the WSM is there are a lot of add-ons and modifications you can do to it. Only modification I've done though is replacing the terrible aluminum door with a stainless steel one. As focused on quality as Weber seems to be, weird they'd opt for such a flimsy piece of aluminum. Temp and fire regulation improved immediately when I put that on.

I was just looking at this Saturday. Do you really like it? It is giving me an itch to purchase.

I love the Bronco. Versatile with the grill option as well as the hanging bars. Holds heat real well. I did a 14-hr cook with one basket of B&B lump this past weekend.

If there’s no rush, I’d stalk brickseek.com and look for a deal at Walmart. I got mine for $183.

I do. Around this time last year my old Masterbuilt propane smoker gave out. I wanted something easier to use. It came down to Bronco or Pellet. I opted for the Bronco because I didn't want to deal with electronic controller failure and longevity concern. A year in and I am satisfied that I made the right purchase for my wants

Thank you and I’m not in a rush. I will look for the deal. Thank you for that too.

Can't go wrong with a WSM. I have the 22 and love it.

Sounds like the WSM and Bronco would both work well for me. Going to watch clearance the next few weeks, I think. If nothing comes up, I'll make a call between the two.

It is extremely close to set it and forget it. Some people claim they don't like the taste of smoked meat that had grease drip directly over the coals. But that's never been an issue for me personally. I've served hundreds of pounds of smoked meat to friends/family out of my bronco and just about everyone raves about the end product. I also got mine on sale for under $200, so it was an even easier decision for me.

ETA: I wonder who the person is that hates this smoker

The Bronco looks like a nice smoker. I may have to add one to the collection if I catch it on sale.

Does yours not have the plate to go over the coals?

Grease still gets down there, but I've never experienced the taste some describe from drum smokers.

If I'm cooking brisket or pork butt I put a foil pan on the diffuser plate to catch the drippings mostly to ease clean up down the road.
