Do you typically have to reload it during a cook?
No, and I've had some long smokes when doing multiple briskets at once.

My skepticism comes from the quality of he smoke it produces from the pellets.
I've owned both the traditional and pellet and have smoked for years and I cannot tell the difference. I'm not saying I'm an expert or anything, but I've just about tried them all. The one glaring con to a pellet is the price.
You're going to pay way more for one that you would a traditional side smoker.

I'm no expert either. Thanks for the feedback
How much does that model you posted go far? Are pellets themselves expensive?(relative to wood chips and chunks)

My model (Daniel Boone) runs around $700. It easily fits two large briskets an that's about as big as I get with smoking.
a 20lb bag of pellets run me around $10 and even for a long smoke brisket, I might use 1/2 to 3/4 of a bag.

Well that's out of my current price range. I'll keep it in mind for next summer once I've graduated and my income increases. Thanks again for answering all my questions

Not a problem. I hate to sound like I'm pimping the Green Mountain Grills, but I went with them after reading about their customer service online. So far, so good after owning one for about 2 years.

You're from Arkansas, check out www.pkgrills.com
Made in Little Rock, all aluminum (except the grates), last forever, cost about $250.

Weber Smokey Mountain.
I have cooked on a lot of different smokers. In my opinion it is the best for the price. It has a large cooking surface. I cooked a whole chicken and a 6 pound sirloin tip this weekend on one rack with room to spare. I finished cooking at 2:00. After the Saints game, 7:30 or so it was still steady at 245 with 8 pounds of fuel. I have the large one, I think it is 24", it was $395 I believe.
