Dempseys is not a french dip. It is a roast beef Poboy with gravy on the side. It is tasty, but not a french dip.

Just don't like the bread at all for a roast beef po-boy....not enough character to hold up to the meat and gravy/au jus.

This is true. It is pretty fallen apart at the end. I just don't mind.

I've had the fried seafoods at Tommy's Fish House & Off The Hook, and IMO they're not even in the same ballpark as Dempsey's...But my biggest difference with others on here seems to be Mason's Grill..I will never understand the love for the food (other than breakfast) at Mason's.

Skillet, I totally agree with you're assessment of Mason's. I've gone several times and the only things I've like on the menu are the burger and their fried catfish, everything else is avg. or subpar. Last time I went the gf got a seafood pasta dish and it was disgusting (smelled like bad crab meat, etc.)

Again just my opinion though.

Tavolatim, I tried the one at CCG and it is good, it's another orignal style with the water au jus vs. the gravy type.

I guess I just like the gravy stuff more, just like DEBRIS in New Orleans.

I know that you cannot comment, but I want to assure you that I am not dissing your French Dip. It is a terrific sandwich, just not the "traditional". I order it every time and love it.

Bump for Skillet. How is Jay's prepared? What comes on it? I might try one this evening.

J. Alexander’s. It's made with sliced Prime Rib, on a French bun and served with real Au Jus. About $15.00, but worth it. If it's not on the menu, ask for it.
