Going next week with friends.
I've been told a lot about it, but would welcome any comments or suggestions.

You are not going to go wrong with anything. This is what we had a couple weeks ago.
Dozen of their oysters and the charcutier. Also their inhouse old Fashioned has a bit if Indian spice in it. Was good.

My favorite restaurant in New Orleans right now. I recommend, if your crew is OK with it, to order many things and share them. I understand, some people like to have their own entrée and be done, but if they are open to that, it’s the best way to eat here.
They have many small plates with different flavors to try with roti and naan bread that really create a great experience. The oysters are completely insane, and there is a shrimp appetizer that I believe they call tamarind shrimp that is at Indian spice take on BBQ shrimp that is so good.
Great atmosphere, and truly one of the best couple of dining experiences I have had around here in a long time. Can’t say enough good things about it.

My doctor is Indian, and he prefers the type of good he grew up with. He didn’t like the attempt to fuse either Nola cuisine. That said, I’m not Indian and I’m looking forward to it. Ones of my friends recommends the gumbo.

Correct, and I find that some people may have the wrong impression about the restaurant. This is not a straight ahead Indian restaurant. It is a total fusion restaurant with New Orleans preparation, culture, flavors joined with Indian approaches, preparation, and flavors.
Very unique to the region. The gumbo is very much familiar, and honestly tastes very much like a standard seafood gumbo.
If you want actual Indian/Curry influences, go for other dishes. The gumbo is certainly good, but not much twist, honestly.

Wasn't the original Saffron popular for being the best straight up Indian restaurant?
I never went just heard Indians and others rave on it. Shyan's is my only real restaurant Indian experience.

My hearing on the original is that it was "upscale" but nothing about fusion.
