My basil plant froze last night. Think the leaves are good for a simple syrup or infused oil? Which should I do?

The last one I had in the yard froze too and the leaves are a nice dark brown this a.m.

I did have 3 of them up until a month ago and cut the branches off 2 of them to wrap in a sheet and hang in my shop to dry so I can crush them to make dried basil to go in the spice rack.

My wife did pick a few dozen fresh leaves before the plant froze to use when she cuts up tomatoes with mozzarella cheese to give that a bit of a kick for a snack with some vinegarette dressing.

I think it tastes weird after a freeze, kinda like after it blooms.

How do you keep them from not blooming? This seems to be my problem whenever I pot them but not if they’re in ground.

I've never had a basil plant survive a frost, much less a freeze. Y'all growing basil in the winter?

It is advised to cut off all blooming stalks ASAP from the plant. My plants are always in the ground the if I go out of town for a week, I come home to plants with blooms coming in, especially late in the growing season when the plants mature.

I also just learned this regarding my Thai Basil plants, after they had thoroughly bloomed.
Throw them out or do they come back?

I've never "lost" a basil plant to blooming. Just cut off the blossoms and the plant will continue to grow. By season's end, my basil plants are pretty much huge bushes.

If you have enough of them and want to attract honeybees to your garden, let one of the plants put out blooms and it will pull in tons of honeybees to the plants.
