It was pretty poor effort but good enough to bother some tender souls. Do we need another thread on where to eat in one of the biggest cities in the country ?

We get it, you think fine dining is stupid. It's been duly noted.

But on a board that focuses on food and drink, you should probably pull the stick out of your arse and frequent other threads.

We should stop having restaurant threads period. All these hipster places with $20+ entrees are a joke. The only meals worth having nowadays are the ones we make at home.

Johnnie”s Beef out in Elmwood Park was some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Got a beef, juicy, sweet and hot, with fries, Italian ice, and Diet Coke.

It’s a long train ride, plus Uber from downtown, but damn it was worth it. I rank it with the pastrami sandwich from Katz’s Deli in NYC.

The Art of Ordering at Johnnie’s Beef

Lou Malnati's is my pick of the deep dish places that pack in the visitors. You can order at a counter right away and then wait for your table. The pizza takes about an hour, so it’s time well spent. Hit the bar for a couple of drinks.

Billy Goat Tavern is centrally located and has cheap drinks. Folks there are nice. I liked their house dark beer for a cheap drink. Last night we were there, a guy bought a round of Chicago Handshakes (shot of Malört with a bottle of Old Style) for a group.

The Purple Pig is nearby on Michigan Ave. if you want to hit a trendy spot. Lots of interesting shareable plates.

Eataly is worth a visit just for browsing and gelato, but is also good for a sit down pasta, pizza, etc. meal. Just a block off Michigan Ave.

Monk’s Pub has a great beer selection in a nice, dark bar.

Fulton Market District Is full of cool bars and restaurants like Publican and the Ballast Point taproom.
