Most people agree that sitting around table (usually with people assigned to sit there) at a reception is a drag.

That's not how receptions are done in Louisiana, thankfully. At least, very rarely. People who try to have destination weddings in NOLA are always shocked that many traditional reception places won't allow seated dinner. It's just not how it's done here.

Even 6 figure weddings typically go "New Orleans style", which isn't a seated dinner. Just tons of food set up around the place with action stations and whatnot.

I was actually completely confused the first time I went to an out of state wedding with assigned seating and waiters bringing out (funny enough, cold) food.

not sure why you think they were served cold

Because the vast majority of people who would pick up fast food sandwiches for a wedding wouldn't think to have a heated buffet setup when they get back with it.

But kudos if you thought of that!

Honestly, getting fast food sandwiches as one of the wealthiest people in Atlanta or whatever it was.. is more on the "trying to be ironic and ~quirky~" side vs. on the "good wedding food on a budget" side. I imagine OP's daughter is not trying to be quirky. Just have good solid dinner for guests without breaking the bank.

The strangest wedding I ever went to was in Chicago. Wedding was during the day cause it was the summer and awesome weather. The reception was several hours later at night

so we had ~4 hours to kill in Chicago. Being in my 20s, we all went to the bar. Which apparently wasn't polite or custom, we were told that when we showed up lubed up. We weren't hammered but the only table that went out drinking. We were already the groom's jackass high school friends to a pretty rich Chicago crowd so whatever.

Then they had the seated reception where everyone gave speeches. The bar was closed during the speeches. Save for a red & white bottle of wine at each table.

Very odd flow for the day

Odd is right.

When I was wedding planning, I joined some forums just to see what people are doing, look at advice, etc. I quickly realized we don't do half the shite they do in other parts of the country.

To each their own, but I find 1.5-2 hours at a dinner table with possible strangers before you can even get to partying to be awful, and I'm so glad we don't do that even at the nicest weddings here.

Agreed.
I’m going to a high end wedding next month and they are going to have a cocktail hour before the ceremony. LOL
Then we will party our asses off after. They have arranged transportation to and from the main hotel and the wedding location.

I would serve pulled pork with potato salad, baked beans, slaw, rolls.
