I was given an elk roast from a buddy at work who just took a trip to Colorado. I'm not sure if i should treat it like a regular rump roast and just throw it in the crock pot with everything like I usually do?
Any info of best way to prepare is greatly appreciated

I've never eaten elk, but we cook all our venison roasts exactly like beef chuck roast. Hope this helps.

Sounds like it might be a candidate for a 48 hour Sous Vide cook at 130 or so degrees. I've never done this so if anyone has experience cooking wild game Sous Vide please feel free to comment. If there isn't any exterior fat on it you might want to rub it down good with bacon grease. I have cooked chuck roast Sous Vide for 48 hours and it is delicious, tender and rare at 130 degrees.

I inject with marinade and stuff with garlic. Sear in black iron dutch oven, add water and trinity. Cook covered about an hour on stove then move to oven at 350 till done.

My wife just cooked an elk roast in the crock pot last night. Cooked it like any other roast for about 7hrs. It was awesome.

I would sear it on pit, then smoke indirect. Pink on inside
