I had Portillo's recently. I wasn't impressed.

The cake milk shake was legit though.

Hate to see anyone have a bad Italian Beef at Portillo's because we eat at one of them every time we go to Chicago.

There are a couple of Al's in the downtown area (N. Wells and W. Taylor) and they make a pretty good Italian Beef. Said to be best old school IB in Chicago, which may be true. And I will always love Portillo's.

Not Italian beef but if you want the best steak you’ve ever had try Bavette’s downtown.

It wasn't awful, just not really good. It was a newer location in the suburbs (was driving from Wisconsin to Ohio so didn't get downtown), not sure if that makes a difference.

Looking back, I maybe should have added salt. The flavor just didn't pop at all (got it with extra gravy and giardiniera).

Go to Ming Hin Cuisine for Dim Sum

They have several locations near downtown

If you've never been to one, check out the Eataly location downtown. The salted caramel gelato I had there was one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted, and I'm not a big sweets fan. Had some good pasta dishes too. Fun place to browse around the grocery aisles even if you don't eat there.
