I just tried my 1st Dong Phuong king cake about 10 minutes ago. It was pretty good but it probably wouldn't be top 3 on my list.

Stick to Rouses. For the price, you can't beat them.

ETA: I'm against spending more than $20ish for a damn King Cake.

They changed the recipe this year.
They used to be "flatter" and more croissant like.
Not as good as before.
Still, they are EASILY in the top five.

Ahh didn't know that. I thought it would be similar to Haydels, etc.

TulaneLSU's ten best king cakes in the NOLA Metro

(FTR, Dong Phuong is not top ten. Probably #12)

I must be the only one who likes his lists. I find them helpful. I never take a food critics word 100% but he has mentioned places on here that I never would have tried and wound up really enjoying.

I disagree with him a lot, but still find the discussion that his threads ensue to be helpful.

I find them entertaining, but obviously he has zero taste in king cakes.
