Can’t crave what I’ve never had. I’m not into eating feet. Pig or chicken

I actually use to eat them on occasion when I was a kid but haven't in a very long time now. It was more of a novelty/dare thing when I was a kid.

I know for sure I've eaten way more pickled sausage over the years. I can remember a time when pickled eggs and sausages could be found in just about any neighborhood bar for customers to snack on.

Pickled pig's feet used to be available at Big Chain grocery stores behind the butcher table, in a big mason jar. The butcher could get one out of the jar and sell it individually, just like you can still get a big dill pickle at convenience stores that way.

You can still buy them by the jar if so inclined. I've seen them in Rouses here in N.O.

Not much to them really. Basically just pickled fat, a little meat and a lot of bone and gristle.

I've got a Hog's Head Cheese recipe that calls for using the head and feet fresh when cooking it so it gets enough collagen to set nicely.

No, but I think I can tell you every place in the three county area that sells a sow ear sammich.

Never had that, and likely never will. However, I had a good friend of mine, now deceased, that would crab using a trot line and he used pig snoots for bait on that thing.

I went with him a couple times and it was unbelievable how many crabs he'd catch just using two lines each about 1/4 mile long with pig snoots hooked every 10 ft. or so.

One day we caught 7 hampers of beautiful blue crabs in about 4 hours time running those lines.

Nothing on a hog goes to waste except the oink.

Nope. BUT a pint jar filled with pickled quail eggs and several cold beers is a craving I can relate to.

What tha...?

I would like to see a demographic profile of pickled pig's feet eaters in America. You would be surprised at how many are whites.

It's a traditional food in the rural South and has nothing to do with race or ethnic origin. Like pork rinds, sausage and barbecue. Now I bet they're not too popular in the Jewish and Muslim communities.
