Just had a new igniter installed in my oven a few days ago. Turned it on for the first time and after about 10 minutes there was a noticeable burning smell that is somewhat plastic like.

Is there a new igniter smell like the new oven smell you can get or did the Sears repairman frick up when he made the install?

i wouldnt be too concerned, but he should have tested it before even leaving. thats doesnt sound like a professional repair man if he didnt test it.

but most things like that will give off smells when they first burn in

even the stovetops will have a small as the powder coat burner covers first gets heated up

just watch it close, the smell should be a one time thing and if its noxious like plastic then the insulation on wires might be burning off it if he didnt put it all back in correctly

Electric? Yes.

They will smoke for about a minute or two on first install.

Gas igniter? No. You shouldn't notice anything.
