Cocktail ideas: Bourbon & Maple Syrup

I'm trying to whip up something interesting and seasonal for a Halloween get-together tomorrow. I just received a bunch of maple syrup has a gift.
I'm thinking about doing some bourbon/maple combination. I'd prefer to stay away from something overly sweet and sour.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Make a ‘shrub’ out of the syrup.
Could add figs to it too.
You could also make/buy a coffee bitters to go with that.

I'm not one for overly-sweet cocktails so I'd say save the maple syrup for pancakes and just make old-fashioneds. Manhattans would be nice as well with this cool weather coming in.

Make a Vermont Laundry, one of my favorite winter drinks other than straight bourbon.
INGREDIENTS
—2 oz. Makers Mark whiskey
—.75 oz. fresh lemon juice
—.5 oz. Grade A maple syrup
—1 pinch of cayenne pepper
DIRECTIONS
1. Combine first four ingredients.
2. Mix well.
3. Shake and strain into martini glass.
4. Dust with cayenne pepper.
