What’s the boards opinion of this place? Reviews vary wildly, from best sushi restaurant on the gulf coast to a big plate of meh...and I fall closer to the latter.

I’ve eaten there twice and enjoyed both meals, but neither sang the best sushi on the coast song.

Menu

Lots of cooked sushi, lots of cream cheese...which I guess is indicative of modern US sushi. I don’t order either, ever.

Anyway, just checking to see what the opinion is here. Probably go somewhere else in OS next time, but I’ll likely be back sometime down the road.

I went a while ago (10 yrs) and it was very good. Do you have a favorite for sushi on the coast? I ask because I am over that way a good bit.

Chef Scott’s in OS is great.

I love Fat Sumo in the Pass. It is my favorite, but I am biased. Samurai in Gulfport and Raw Bar in BSL is good too.

Samurai is what we enjoy the most. It’s mainly because of their appetizers from the sushi bar. Menu page 8 has the apps. Sunset, tarta, seared scallop...

We eat at On A Roll in Long Beach a good bit too.

Have you been to sushi at the Sycamore House on Wednesday’s?

I don't eat sushi, but I know people who want to eat there every time they come to town. Also, some people seem to think it was better before they moved into the larger building.

Also we are getting a RAW in Ocean Springs across from where Chef Scott used to be.

Damn TBT is growing. I like RAWs peel and eat shrimp, but it’s more of an oyster bar than a sushi place.

Pretty sure Chef Scott owns/operates this place, too. Heard good things about it.

Eta: Nevermind, two different Asian-American chefs named Scott, I always thought they were the same person.

Same concept, at both of those places the owner is the sushi chef. Definitely helps quality control.
