Looks like an update to the Akorn which was a really good grill at a great price

ETA: the Akorn was chargriller, which I thought was the same brand as char Broil but I could be wrong

Lots of parts to put together. Allow yourself 1-2 hours. For the most part, all the holes lined up (a couple of the sheet metal brackets were slightly bent during shipping, but were easy enough to bend back to intended shape). Directions were easy to follow, and the hardware was nicely packaged and labeled. Once assembled, the grill is extremely sturdy. It is much heavier than a standard charcoal grill, but not too heavy that it can't be moved around. The grill works as advertised; it gets up to temperature quickly and has no problem holding the heat. I have used it as both a smoker and a grill. If there is one thing that I see can be improved on, it would be the service tray. The brackets are a bit flimsy, and the fold operation is not smooth (it wouldn't be a bad idea to replicate Weber). Overall, I am extremely happy with this grill. Not sure why anyone would spend $1000+ for a ceramic when you can get the same results for a 1/3 of the price. Read less

Anyone know?

I am sure it works great, the Akron get's great review. Only weird thing is the lower damper being on the shelf. Not sure why they did that, no other system puts it there that I know of.

My first "expensive" grill was a Staniless steel Charbroil Commercial infrared gas grill. Paid about $600. Thought it was awesome the first couple years. By year five the stainless steel proved to be some cheapass Chinese crap alloy and the whole thing started falling to pieces. Except for the lid. The lid proved to be stainless. I would be leery of anything Char Broil

I wouldn't count on that... and it definitely won't last as long as ceramics.

I know its a 1/3 of the price now, but in the long run is it really? The metal will not be as efficient with fuel. Up keep will be a pain, ash is the enemy of metal and will cause it to rust. Will it keep food moist over long cook times and temp control will not be as good as a ceramic. Ruin one prime brisket by drying it out there goes $50 bucks.

Just as a follow up, I would go to the source of people that use it to better make a decision.

I do. Keep it at the camp and use it every time I'm down there. That thing is a beast.
