It wasn't that good and the owner/chef had his own opinion of what was good. I saw it coming.

Went once. Was the only table in there. Food was decent but the menu was very bland. Not surprised but sad because the owner put some money into it before opening.

I stopped in twice to pick up food right after they opened. Thought it was ok, but wasn't enough to lure me back in.
That location for some reason is just cursed. Station 6, New Orleans Food and Spirits, and of course R&O's do great business. I'm sure Deanies is not hurting either.
I had heard a few years ago that the landlord was a prick who wanted too much for rent and wouldn't fix a lot of big problems.

I live in the neighborhood and never went there. I use to go when it was Live Bait. It seems that is the only business that lasted any more than 4 years. I agree that place seemed to be cursed.

Worst meal and service I've had in the past ten years.
They had to be a front for some illegal crap considering how long they stayed in business.

They had a good happy hour..something like $2 imports? Rarely did I eat there..don't remember what I ordered.

Carmine’s did great there until the “fire”.

I never even heard of it, and I'm pretty on top of these things.

And thus, the curse was put in place. But it’s true, that location should rival R&O’s. If it was knocked down and replaced with something that had a view of the lake, it wouldn’t be cursed anymore.

Was that the place on Deadman's corner?

Yep ... which is crazy, it’s a great location.
I really need to hit up a R&O roast beef soon.

Same. But I've heard it's time down in quality which is disappointing.
Have you been to Station 6 yet? I really like that place. The double cut pork chop with bourbon glaze and sweet potato mash is fantastic. It can be a little pricey is the only drawback.

The landlord is actually an elderly woman who isn't exactly all there. No, she won't do much for the place but accept the rent payments.

Yep. Station 6 rocks. Now the Vega Tapas is gone this is the last of that food legacy.

That location is just cursed with shitty restaurants. It's not like there has been a decent restaurant go in there and fail.
Smokehouse grill was not good. I went a couple times and the BBQ was really lacking. I never saw or smelled a smoker there either. The burger place before that was also not good, nor was Livebait (though in fairness I do not think they were aiming for good food). I think these people need to realize that you cannot just open a casual grill type restaurant on the cheap with mediocre to bad food and succeed there. Knocking down and raising it high enough to see the lake over the raised levee and the coastguard station is a non-starter. They just need someone with a good concept and good food go in there.
If someone tries to open another typical poboy/seafood joint or a standard bar/grill, then it is going to fail. If someone who has the experience and qulifications opens something closer to a slightly cheaper Toups or a toned down Marjie's Grille, or a Sylvain or Mondo, then I think they kill it. Station 6 has shown that you can do more in that area because it pulls from Lakeview and Metairie. You can do a lot with the interior since it has good space to support an upscale casual place similar in pricepoint to Station 6 and the Spicer Lakeview restaurants, but the next proprietor needs to have money, experience, and a plan.

Have you had the pompano there? It's outstanding. Peche is my gold standard for fish in the city, but that dish from Station 6 is just as good as anything that you will order from Peche.
