Am I the only one that also adds artichokes?
I do. Or I'll add whatever looks good in the store. Cauliflower, sausage, shrimp, asparagus, beans. I've heard of pineapple, but I'm scared to try it. Just don't make sense!
As to putting them in an ice chest, it's ok to do, but make sure you vent it so they don't overcook. Old catering trick.

I've never boiled them longer than 3 min and sometimes I put in butter sometimes i don't, I've never added oil.
If you haven't tried it, before you get the water too spicey quarter a couple heads of cabbage and throw in there, if you like cabbage you'll love it boiled like this.
I think just about anything you can think of taste good in crawfish seasoning.
One time we a had a guy come over and boil crawfish for us he steamed/boiled them and man they were some of the best I have ever eaten he could season them perfect, mild, hot and burn your arse up hot. I'm not sure how he did it all I remember (since I got drunk) was his pot was only half full of water with the crawfish in it.

Have not thought about that. I bet that is good. I will have to try it.
If you enjoy artichokes you will love them after they have had time to soak.

I usually don't have enough room in my 80qt pot if im boiling 35-40lbs. Plus, I like a lot of taters. When do u add them?
LOL...you must love those taters then.
I put them in when I put my frozen corn and potatoes.
Every now and again I will add asparagus. If I do, I add them a minute or two before I turn off the heat.

Hmmmmm, that sweetness with that spice sounds like a very interesting combo. I will have to try this sometime.

when i'm boiling in my back yard in a regular pot I light a cigarette at the first hint of a boil, when I'm done with that cigarette the fire is turned off and ice is added

This thread amuses me.
And if you have to add oil or butter to a crawfish boil, you suck at boiling crawfish. /discussion.

I call a spade a spade, but I'd you think you need to oil your crawfish again, you suck at boiling crawfish. Adding things for flavor or taste is your own perogatiive, but that's just dumb.

If there are multiple sacks... When people come up n tell me how to do it... I'll generally let whoever wants to frick up the first couple sacks boil em and I'll boil the last one my way
If you're adding box of salt, butter, oil or boiling for 5+ min... I'm not eating

If you're adding box of salt
Butter and Olive oil will add no taste

I usually drink 3 beers after I cut em off before I taste one.

Like I said earlier.. I just don't like the greasy feeling on my hands n mouth. Just my preference.

Smoked deer sausage is the best thing I've ever put in a pot of crawfish. I usually eat a couple dozen crawfish and then pig Out on sausage, beer, and mushrooms.

This thread is making me crave some crawfish.

Only if I am in a time crunch. This means that I will boil them longer and then hit them with ice to stop the cooking. Gets' them ready much quicker, but the flavor of long soaking is not there. Another catering trick.

No shite huh.
Just this South Louisiana way of life man.
No shite. Like trying to build something with your Dad, Grandpaw, and Uncle. Instead of agreeing before hand how they want to build it, they all have their own way and change shite up 4 or 5 times during the process.

The best I have ever had was boiled in plain water and then put in another pot that had the seasoned (cooler) water to soak. They were awesome.
