A while back a friend of mine was visiting and had his cousin was with him. I offered the cousin a glass and he asked for coke to mix it with. Being the polite host I gave him a coke and then proceeded to die a little on the inside.

Meh, a couple dashes of bitters never hurt a mid-grade bourbon.

(I'm holding back the urge to debate why you are making an old fashioned with a bourbon anyway)

I’m a huge fan of Blantons but it’s impossible to find in Texas. I actually prefer Weller 12 to it but W12 is even harder to find. I love a good old fashioned but prefer a Rye like mentioned above. To me, mixing anything with Blantons is taboo, it’s better neat or with minimal ice.

I agree. If I'm making Old Fashions I just stick with Beam or something similar.

Disagree. Not sure why you would downgrade your bourbon/whiskey to make an old fashioned.

This has been my goto lately.

I'll save the good stuff for sipping. I have no shame in mixing Jim Beam in my Old Fashions
