Thanks I really wanted your input...it goes along with what everyone i know in the business is saying.
OK, good service but not a commander's style where they remember your first borns name...
Now what do we need ...a waiter training academy...there I go, everyone gets rich on my ideas

Can't get em to do the job when we pay them, can't imagine the attitude you'd get if they had to pay us to train them!

That's OK...with what I save going out I can hire someone to clean up and i don't have to tip...But i will ask for David next time I go to Dag's.

So I am labeled a "douche" because I chose to share an opinion and experience that differed from yours? Interesting. And "swarm service" is simply one of many methods of service, and I never claimed it as the second coming. Personally I prefer a more personalized technique, but I digress. I am certainly not an advocate; I just put a name to the style that you experienced at this particular establishment.
You know, after a review of all these posts, I realized that this thread is not about BJ's, service of waitstaff in Baton Rouge, or food & drink at all. This is about a general perceived or actual disconnect between this generation and ones previous.
This is an infinitely more interesting topic.
Thoughts? Or should we just discuss who has the best shrimp poboy in EBR?

I still think you're a douche, and a lame one at that. I actually feel dumber after reading your posts. Can I please have that 15 secs of my life back?

Opie,
I got your back man, and I think you run a terrific place.
Foods always good
beer is always cold
and the service is always AT LEAST decent.
Love Opie's, in fact... I need to go there soon.

no, you're labeled a "douche" because if you read each of your posts in here .. you flip flop and make very little sense, i.e. add next to zero to the discussion ..

i mean, can you understand what he is trying to say in the thread ? is it me ? or does his argument literally change from post to post ?

I apologize. In the future I will make an effort to include more clicks, whistles, name calling, arrogance, and a sprinkling of Tourette's and intolerance in my future arguments. I was under the impression that this was an open forum to share differing ideas and opinions. My mistake.
Hey, that Jeremiah Red is good! And growlers are back!
Oh, yeah. Stupid shite dammit arse nutlicker monkeyspunk!
May we move on now?

i wouldn't call what you do an "argument" ..
go back to your first post in this thread and read each and every one of them and tell me that your message has been clear, concise, and consistent throughout ..

I guess that would be a "no."
How about this approach:
You win. You're the big winner. Your comments have been thoughtful, informative, critical, and insightful. I, on the other hand, am a loser. You know everything, and I know nothing. Kids suck, service sucks, all other restaurants suck, prices suck, pizza sucks, Myspace sucks, XBox sucks, cell phones suck, everything sucks, sucks, sucks.
You are so right. This will be my last post on this thread because there is simply nothing else to add. The lights have come up. The band is packing their instruments. The bar has announced last call. Party's over, folks.

alright .. be a fricking whiny arse weirdo about it .. i asked a simple question that for some odd reason, you are not willing to answer ... for your future message board rhetorical experiences i would recommend venturing into topics that you actually know something about and can add more than herky-jerky flip flopping arguments that leaves one wondering what exactly you are trying to say ...

is this place ever going to get its shite together?

i went there last night with three friends and sat at a table for the first time ever .. now, mind you, every other time we have gone we sit at the bar and haven't had a problem with service or the food .. i can attest that everyone complaining about the table service there is DEAD BALLS ON !! it was a totally different restaurant ... after reading some of the posts complaining about how long it took to get the first beer i literally watched the dude waiting our table .. he takes our order .. walks into the kitchen, comes right back out 30 seconds later, stands around and talks to four other wait people, then answers his cellphone .. after about 10 minutes the people at my table are looking around .. i look over and make eye contact with him, he jumps and THEN puts in our drink order ... are these kids fricking attention spans THAT short ?? in all, it took us over two hours from the time we got there until the time we left ... i totally agree with the service complaints from earlier in this thread ... our food wasn't bad, and the beer was good, but at one point i had to go to the bar and order up four jeremiah reds, because the kid was so slow serving us ... it really is ashame that the place really can't get its act together .. i love the concept and BR needs a place like this, but if it fails, it will be blamed on the economy or market size or whatever rather than the fact that the place is always packed, but the horrific service model is going to choke it to death ...
GET A frickING CLUE PEOPLE !! AND WAIT STAFF, GET OFF YOUR frickING ASSES AND WORK !!
Posted on 8/16/08 at 12:09 pm to TigahRag
I tried to go last night, but there was a 90-minute wait, so... frick that.
I was going to give it a second chance, the first tim I went was about a month ago now, but it seems nothing has changed.

The wait would be cut to 30 mins max if the staff would give a rats. My buddy works there and does not expect a damn thing to change. He says places like Bravo, etc are sucking up the good servers, and they have a lot of people who have never waited tables before at BJ's.
First hand from the industry, don't expect a quick change. They could fire everyone and start fresh, but that training budget is already blown, and there is no way in hell they can pull that many new competent people together with the doors already open.

yeah .. we waited about 45 minutes .. but we knocked down a few beers and shot the crap .. by the time we left at about 7:45 it was a mob scene in that place .. the seating area in there is actually small, IMO .. and you could tell it was taking them easily 90 minutes to over two hours to turn a table .. it was the perfect storm by the time you walked in apparently ..

opie .. what did they go out and hire in the first place ? do you think they just intentionally went cheap ? it is puzzling .. i noticed our waiter last night was VERY green, i am sure this is his first rodeo waiting tables ... i just can't fathom that management can't get a grip on this .. like i said .. it may eventually put that place out of biz and they will blame BR for this and give the market a bad name nationally when it is CLEARLY corporate's fault ..
btw, i have been to bravo twice and give it two thumbs up .. wonderful service and really good food .. and i am seeing a lot of people walk into BJs, find out they have to wait an hour and just walk next door to bravo ..

Honestly, no f'ing clue. I know there is absolutely no way I'm going in there with that kind of service, when there are many other choices in BR. I don't know if they went cheap, but I know for sure the market for competent staff is VERY tight right now. BR is headed into a downward spiral bc so many lazy people don't want to put in the effort and just want a short term fix. Kinda like the junkie looking for his next high. One of two things is going to happen. This trend is going to set the new lower bar for service in BR, or managers/owners are going to get off their asses and put an end to it. I've never witnessed so many 75k/year middle managers getting away with such lazy work ethics before. They let it slide, and the only ones suffering are the customers. What a shame.
