BBQ:
1. Saw's (Edgewood for the most traditional BBQ, Avondale or Juke Joint for a little more variety, all are great)
2. Rusty's BBQ in Leeds
3. Miss Myra's
4. Martin's or Moe's
5. Golden Rule in Irondale
6. Archie's

Breweries with good food:
1. Back Forty
2. Good People
3. Trim Tab
4. Cahaba Brewing

Breweries ranked, regardless of food:

1. Trim Tab
2. Back Forty
3. Avondale
4. Good People
5. Ghost Train
6. Cahaba

Pizza:
1. Slim's
2. Post Office Pies
3. Davenport's
4. Bettola
5. Trattoria

Rodney Scott's in Avondale.

Don't go here. It is awful, just legitimately awful. I put a lot of that on the people running the location, but the BBQ is just flat out bad. I've been to his SC location, so it isn't that I just don't like SC BBQ. This location is just awful.

4. Vecchia
5. Trattoria Centrale

I don't understand people's love for Slice or Vecchia. Both have been nothing but mediocre anytime i've ever been. Slim's is better than all of these.

If you go to Saw's do a little research before you go to one. Each kind of has it's own twist. Soul Kitchen (Avondale) is more soul food with BBQ. BBQ (Homewood) is more traditional BBQ. Juke Joint (Crestline) has their own menu with specific stuff (boudin, catfish, fried oysters, shrimp & grits). All are excellent. I prefer Soul Kitchen but it's also closest to my house.

Have you bee to Avondale location since they renovated it? I think it is hands down the best one they have currently. Its menu is by far the most unique. Have them make you the Colonel sandwich, but use the Sweet Heat chicken instead of the sweet tea chicken. Fantastic.

No Troup's Pizza?

ETA: I thought Slim's was OK, but not as good as Troup's. Davenport's is great ONLY IF you get it extra crispy. If not, it's soggy garbage. We haven't tried Bettola or Trattoria yet.

The slim's hot honey pizza + add the fennel sausage is phenomenal. Best crust in town currently. Agree'd on ordering the davenport's extra crispy.

Bettola is fantastic. Pizza I actually rarely get there, but it is very good. Their pasta is phenomenal. The place is a very good step down from Bottega cafe. Very similar overall offering. They've had an absolutely dynamite carbonara the past few times i've been.

This is what we had. It was good, but I prefer Troup's. We graduated Auburn with the owner. Great guy. Family owned and operated.
