I'm so old, I worked at the one on College Dr that is now an IHOP. They opened the one on Coursey while I was there, we trained some of their people.

beer's beer .. tough to frick that up

You would think so. For my applebee's trip last week, I just wanted to get a few beers and an appetizers.
The beer tasted flat/stale, the chips on the nachos were stale tasting, the cheese they put on chips was some low grade cheeze whiz pour on stuff that was not even luke warm.

Add the sticky spot on the bar that my arm kept hitting, the trash on the ground, the trash in the resaurant, and the goofy assed serving staff into the mix, and I swear I will never go back.

that's why i drink bottled beer .. from place to place (not just applebee's) i have found a lot of people don't maintain their keg lines properly and it is inconsistent .. i know that they literally had to change the entire bar on coursey because of the sticky shite and the new one is already sticky .. i know what you're saying .. it is either what they are cleaning it with or the topcoat finish just isn't conducive to the crap being spilled on it ..

Sorry, I'm too good to eat at casual chain restaurants like that.

I am assuming you are joking. I am not too good to eat at any chain, but when I do, it needs to be good.

On the other hand if I had driven my lazy arse a half a mile away to a little hole in the wall bar and grill I used to frequent, I know I would have been doing a much better thing. Great burgers and apps, $1 draft beer specials, same owner for 15 years, and probably she same fun bartender who had been there 6 years at last count.
If I am not eating local 90% of the time, I feel bad about it.

We used to go there from time to time to have a beer... used to always get decent service.

I went about 3 months ago on a Sunday night, and had horrible service! They kept saying they were short handed, but there was only about 5-7 tables in the entire place that were occupied.

It is the Big Easy Bar and Grill in Elmwood. I used to go there alot when I worked across the street from it several years ago. Up until two years ago the bartender lady would still give me a kiss on the cheek when I came in. That is service.

Really not anything special, just a pool hall that has cheap beer and decent food, but it would sure run circles around Appleebee's in my book.

Edited to add: Sorry, I was not clear earlier that I was talking about Harahan in case you are not familier with "Elmwood".
