Beef Jerky Prices, and Recipes

Why are they so high? Beef isn't that high, and i doubt they are using filet's to make jerky. Just picked some up from Baileys in Laplace and that stuff was terrible. $8 for 1/4 lb. bag and it had way too much sugar in it. That works out to $24/lb. Even the jack links stuff is pricey for the little amount they give you.
I have a dehydrator and make my own, but haven't made any as of late. Looks like i may go 100% my own from now on.
I have a tried true recipe on my own i created about 15 years ago i still use, but does anyone else have any recipes they like i can add to the rotation?

A piece of beef once dehydrated only yields about 20-25%

Of it's original weight? If that's the case then about $8/lb. However, this jerky is "wet". I don't understand why people do this, so i don't think it would be typical. Maybe 50%? So let's say $16/lb. Either way, the prices have become absurd and i'm going back to making more jerky.

Yes. Pork will yield about 40%.

After you figure trimming, dehydrating, the price of beef, a pound of finished beef jerky costs somewhere in the $15-$18 range. Then labor, marinade, cost of dehydrating....how much would you sell it for?

I have a dehydrator and a slicer. I like making a big batch and bringing it to the camp but it's not very economical. The best I can hope for is when Winn Dixie has roasts BOGO free.
