Beausoleil in Baton Rouge review

Went to Beausoleil on Saturday night after Zapp's Beer Fest and had quite a good meal. The atmosphere was lively and casual. We sat outside, service was impeccable - Bree
Food was overall pretty solid. Details:
*started with some complimentary pork rinds. too salty and not a good way to start a meal, IMO. ate a couple then chugged some ice water to sort of restart myself.
**drinks: we had 3 old fashioneds each. surprisingly not many places know how to make a good old fashioned. not the case at Beausoleil. these were great. well-balanced and enough alcohol to let the rest of the ingredients play their supporting roles.
Lamb meatballs with a rosemary and sherry cream sauce: really well seasoned and came out a just the right temperature. meat tasted fresh and gamey and had a nice fattiness to it (curious what they cooked it in) sauce was balling.
Truffled fried oysters with shaved Parmesan cheese:
awesome. could have eaten another order of these. the cream-based sauce they served the oysters over was light and acidic and a perfect fit. oysters were also fried crisp enough as to not be soggy.
Grilled lamb T-bones, goat cheese dumplings, and chimichurri sauce:
little bit of a weak spot of the meal was this lamb. flavor was there, i.e. - quality cut of meat and seasoned simply but significantly (wonder if they broke down other cuts of this same lamb for the meatballs?). but unfortunately it was ordered medium rare and was cooked to medium which made it a tad chewy/tough. goat cheese dumplings - more like a ravioli than a dumpling - were stuffed full and cooked al dente, perfect texture. chimichurri sauce was lacking in flavor, depth and richness. Not worth the price tag of 36 bones.
Beef short ribs, panko crusted orzo mac and cheese with a mushroom gravy:
Boom. This was on point. The short ribs were juicy and tender and packed plenty of beefy punch. Panko crust added textural contrast while the gravy tasted scratch-made. Could have used a little more cheese, but overall a really solid dish especially for $23 bucks.
Skipped dessert.
Would recommend this place to anyone. I look forward to going back because there are lots of things on the menu I wanted to try.
***and yes Gris Gris, I will post this in the Dining Guide!

Would think they had a completely different cut for the meatballs, shoulder or something.
Goat cheese dumpling with chimichurri? sounds a little strange.
The rest sounds pretty good, short ribs sounds like a bargain at $23. Good review.

Zapps, this and casino until 5am. You had a grand Saturday, to say the least.

I've enjoyed everything I've had there, with the exception of the chargrilled oysters. My only gripe is that sometimes their portion sizes are really small.

That meal looks like the bomb. Thanks for the review. Did you get to sample any other plates or see anything else that looks like you might get it next time? Can't wait to go there. You forgot to mention if the waitresses were hot, though. My only disappointment in the review.

Get pots de creme next time. Looks small, but oh so rich and delicious. It is very filling.

no didn't get to sample anything else .. it was just two of us and we didn't go nuts with the ordering.
I will be trying these next time if they're still on the menu:
- Seared foie gras, sunny side-up quail egg on Belgian waffle with a local honey gastrique
- Sautéed veal sweetbreads with a lemon caper beurre blanc
also urinetrouble told me to get the duck but I passed. i would try that next time along with the scallops and their fish preparation.

I honestly didn't notice.

Omg you did that!!!!! arse. You hit my arm and they went flying.
Rohan: my friend went to Beausoliel last week and said her lamb was also chewy/tough. She waited until the end of the meal to say anything just so they'd know... and they insisted taking it off the bill. She had already eaten it and told them it was not necessary but they refused not to.
Hopefully they can remedy the lamb dish.

I was outside Saturday night as well after Zapp's. The gf and I met a few friends there. We ended up getting a few of the small plates. Usually what we always do. Great place. Great food.

Too late. R2R already posted that the reception girl was hot in a WFDT thread.
