Don't know if this place qualifies as a chain restaurant, but the food is always great - I've been to one at the Venetian in Vegas and last week went to the one in Houston. When we stayed at Venetian last year, while we were waiting for our room to be available for check in and were starving, we decided to grab a bite to eat at Grand Lux in the hotel because it was right in front of us and looked like it would be quick. While I planned on hitting some of the nice restaurants on our trip, we ended up eating most of our meals at Grand Lux. We were always on the run and never knew what our schedule would be, so we couldn't book reservations anywhere and found it hard to get seating virtually anywhere we went. So we ended up settling for Grand Lux for most of our meals and loved the place. Even the breakfast was great - they had amazingly good red velvet pancakes with a cream cheese whipped "frosting" - unbelievably good. Their biscuits and gravy were unlike any I've had as well and looked like a gourmet dish.

But the Asian nachos are what keeps bringing us back there. I've never seen this on any other menu. My wife is not a big eater - I get pissed because I love to go out to eat and she orders grilled chicken or salad everywhere we go. But if you reach for one of these things when they are in front of her you're likely to lose a finger. They are fried wontons with chicken and a sweet/spicy peanut sauce, wasabi cream, melted cheese, and green onions. Haven't tried to make them at home yet, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Just a great concept.

A couple other things I had on this recent visit...

Asian Short Rib Tacos with Kogi-Style Short Rib, Korean Kim Chi and spicy chili aioli.

Duck triangles - a flaky wrap (like a filo dough) with duck, onions, garlic, ginger, soy, and sesame. While the menu said minced duck, it actually had large chunks of duck.

While I was in an Asian mood this visit, their menu is large and varied. A few Asian items on the menu but by no means an Asian restaurant. Service has always been excellent and very quick as well.

Have you eaten there? I've eaten at my fair share of expensive restaurants in my 50 years, and I've had meals at Grand Lux far better than many high class restaurants. I'm not saying to plan a night out, put on the tux, and hop in the limo for dinner at Grand Lux, but for a casual place to eat, everything I've had there has been very good. And the Asian nachos are a great treat that I've never seen on any other menu.
