The town of Ellijay, Ga has it two weekends in a row. If you are up in that area, it’s not bad.

Apple Festival!

Another good one in the area, Marietta, Chalktober Festival! Chalkfest.

Thanks Dad.

We have a trip planned to the Smoky Mountains around that time. We enjoy checking out small town fairs and festivals.

My family prefers the Walhalla Oktoberfest the same weekend, but just over the state line in the mountains of South Carolina (yes, South Carolina has Appalachian mountains too!). It still has a wonderful small-town country vibe that Ellijay has lost due to Atlantification. Walhalla is also surrounded by apple orchards. I recommend Mountain Rest orchard. True rural apple orchard with fresh non-pasturized cider. Not one of those orchards all done up by Joanna Gaines and ran by teenagers. Actual old timers with stands on the side of the road in front of the orchards.

Understandable, my family lives in Woodstock, Ga. These are just easier trips for us. I enjoy so many of the small towns and festivals. We enjoy the small towns in Ga, most being 30-45 mins apart.
We use to camp in N. Ga. and areas around there. Much of N. Alabama. We camped in probably 10-12 different campgrounds in Ark.

Not to take away from all the festivals in La.

Every state has its own uniqueness.

Understandable- from Woodstock that's really close.

We got into the Walhalla fest when we lived in Athens, and the distance to Ellijay was actually further than Walhalla. We live closer to Ellijay now, but are still hooked on Walhalla. And it's still the small time feel. Even Lindsey Graham shows up every once in a while to hobknob. They have a big beer tent set up in the middle of the fairground, with a beer and wine bar, multiple TV's with the football games on (mostly Clemson fans), and a large stage and dance floor with giant polka bands and people all dressed up in the Bavarian garb, and people dancing, and surrounded by all the carnival rides and vendors. It really is great.

We also enjoy Helen.
Have you ever been to Chalktober Fest?
It is really cool with some of the 3D paintings they do. Folks come from all over the US and other countries, just to enter.
