I'm in search of a small gas grill that I can use for any weeknight at the house, and grab and go on my camping/outdoor week/weekend trips.

It seems like this grill is a good bet. A part of me says go with the 1200 for its compact size, but the 2200 is larger with its ~70% larger cooking surface.

Thoughts on these two if you have one?

I have a 1200 on the boat. I have a big spirit at the house. The one on the boat is good. It doesn't have what I'd call a precise temperature control, nor is it consistent throughout its cooking area (read as hot spots). For anything really fatty it likes to flame up because the distance between the burner and the grill surface is very small (a few inches). However for tailgating, picnic, car camping, boat, it is probably the best compact portable. You can do around 4 nice sized ribeyes on the 1200 at once. 8 -10 burgers, 3# sausage.

I have earlier versions of both sizes. You can fit a lot of food on the 2200 and it gets hot enough to use a griddle on it. I sometimes use the larger one as an additional grill at tailgates. I use the smaller grill for road trip tailgating. Also, Weber has released college versions of the the 1200. Only six teams are available, but they are soliciting input for other teams. If only purchasing one, purchase the 2200.

I have a Q2200. Had it for maybe 10-12 years. still works great and use it often.

I have a large homemade charcoal grill/ smoker I use for large events. But love the Q grill when I am just cooking for two, a couple steaks or pork chops or just want to grill a few veggies or something.

If I could change anything about it, would be dual burners. kinda sucks you cant do indirect on it.
