Anyone have trouble with BGE bottom air vent clogging?
I cleaned it out today and noticed when they delivered the BGE the bottom vent was turned upside down. There are tapered holes that I think helped lead to the vents clogging and why the vent has lettering that says this side up. My question is with the vent turned the correct way do they still clog regularly or will this solve my issue?

I’ve never had an issue, 15 years now

Plugs occasionally regardless. How were the holes tapered? Having the smaller diameter up, would be best. Never looked to see if there was a difference. I have a bent coat hanger that I use during the cook if I think the holes have blinded over.

They had it installed with large hole facing grill grate and smaller hole towards bottom on the egg. Meaning it trapped the ash and clogged. The cast iron air vent has writing on it to tell you which way needs to face up.

“Installed” makes it sound like this is some sort of fixed configuration. You can move theat piece easily, every time you clean out the ash. Just turn it so that it aligns with the front of the egg and lines up with the exterior slider vent. Also, a stainless steel kick ash basket is a great replacement for the metal plate at the bottom of the firebox. Makes it easier to start a load of lump and can hold a divider so you can build a half-load of lump, giving you a direct fire and an indirect cooking area at the same time.

How often do you clean the bottom? I clean mine prior to each cooking.

Turning the vent is almost effortless, IMO.
