Wife received one as a birthday gift. They are designed for use on the grill but I was wondering how they compare to magnalite style pots for stove top cooking. The one we have is a four quart chili pot.

Interesting. I thought they only made pewter. Looks like a good braising pot.

Yeah thought it would be really good for rice and gravy or a small gumbo. Trying to decide what to cook first in it. Leaning towards a batch of pork carnitas.

I bought a few smaller pots for my dad's birthday a few years ago. He seems to love them. I see he uses it outside on the grill all the time or inside when making hommade BBQ sauce or baked beans on the stove. I don't notice they cook any differently than a magnalite on the stove. They are particularly nice since they keep whatever is inside them hot if it's hot or cold if its cold- I think that's the selling point for them.

PS, that's a really nice pot! Your wife got a really nice birthday gift, someone spent a pretty penny on her

The funny thing is I had just showed her a purple and gold enameled cast iron pot oline a few days ago telling her I wanted it for Christmas and this comes in the mail.

I have never really cooked in a pot one the grill other than bbq beans. How would you go about cooking something that needed to be cooked at high heat first then braised on a gas grill. With the nice weather we are having I might cook something tonight out on the deck.

Something you need to sear and then braise seems like the obvious choice to me.

I was thinking braised short ribs.
