See previous posts. Stay away from soy.

Unless you want to become hairier and have greater hormonal imbalances.

I can still have edamame though, right? :)

It was hard for me to quit that. I ate it every time I get sushi, which is a lot. I have since switched to squid salad. It isn't good for me either but it's way better than edamame

The easiest description I have ever heard for Paleo is if you can find it, grow it or kill it...it's good to eat. If it requires more than that it's probably not.

Ok, so I'm gonna give it a shot for lent so I can critique it. The only thing is I don't eat anything soy because it is horrible for you. I absolutely refuse and am not looking to screw up my hormonal balnce and grow moobs. Got to find other suggestions I guess...

Email me at TDemboslice@gmail.com if you need any help with recipes or anything, but the internet is your friend. Plenty of good places to find recipes. I am very anxious/curious to hear what you have to say after.

I'll do strict paleo for lent. You do strict vegan. We can write down our stats on Ash Wednesday and again on Easter.

What do you say? (Other posters willing to participate on one side of the other can too.)

I might be the only one who cares but I'm excited y'all are doing this.

I'm going to miss ice cream.

Slice bananas. Freeze bananas for an hour. Blend bananas. You can add cacao powder or peanut butter or whatever you want. Banana ice cream + whatever you add.

And almond flour. Where does that even come from?

You can make your own if you have some almonds on hand and a coffee grinder or food processor! It's fairly simple and MUCH cheaper than store bought.

If you're looking into going Vegan, this guy makes it easy to start up. 28 day kickstarter, complete with shopping lists and meals. It was what I was thinking about trying a few months ago.

I don't get how the vegans can think soy is good for you. That is making me hisitant.

This sounds like deliciousness.

I registered for a food processor. I hope someone buys it for me!

I think I've got a decent menu made so I can avoid eating lentils, soy and most grains.

Ezekiel bread
Almond butter
Almond milk
almonds
sweet potatoes
berries
some types of beans that go well with my blood type
brown rice
tons of veggies.

I know by eating this type of diet I'm not really following the vegan diet of soy and all that other crap. However, it is a good starting point and I think will be much healthier than eating the crap you can eat on the traditional vegan diet. I'm mainly interested about the no meat no fish thing anyway. If this works well I'll try to introduce fish after lent and see how it goes.

If you aren't worried about having a few grains here and there, try replacing brown rice with quiona. You may be familiar with it, but it's really good for you. I toss it in all of my soups and stews. It's a great filler.

Black, Pinto, Garbanzo, Cannelli beans are all very frequent on my plate. Spinach, kale, mushrooms....lots of mushrooms for me. Lots of eggplant and cauliflower. If you like to cook (like me), it will be so fun to create new dishes you wouldn't have tried before. I get a lot of my nutrition for the day from a fresh juice in the morning. If you have a juicer, definitely look into that. It will give you a nice boost of energy in the morning. Also, you should cut all soft drinks and fast food (you know this, but just in case...) Big salads for lunch or dinner with olive oil are very refreshing. You can eat practically as much of it as you want.

Top foods I eat/consume:
Carrots (Juicing)
Apples (Juicing)
Spinach
Avocados
Mushrooms
Beans
Bananas
Sweet Potatoes

Thanks for the suggestions... how many servings of fruit do you get in a day?

Also, they recommend corn... don't eat corn. It sucks.

ETA: If you don't mind me asking. Are you inshape or are you one of those people who was out of shape, switched the vegan, lost weight, still out of shape but claim you have never felt better?

I don't know how many servings exactly but I juice about 10-12 carrots, 4 apples, 1" ginger every morning, usually eat a couple bananas throughout the day. Have another apple or two at night, and snack on grapes/berries throughout the day. I also eat lots of nuts/seeds.

I don't eat corn. Corn sucks.

I am in shape. Bike ~30 miles a week and run 2-3 times a week for 3-4 miles. The recovery time is much shorter for me now. Are you planning on exercising?

I am planning on keeping with the exercise I listed before which is only once a week. It's worked well so far. I'll probably add a little running or other activities to that though.

That's a ton of fruit/sugar. Do you not have insulin spikes and belly fat from all of that?

When you say 10-12 carrots, do you mean baby carrots?

Nice... I didn't see that mentioned but will go back and read through. I don't have insulin spikes or belly fat. I mean, my belly is not pure muscle but... no, no belly fat because of it.

No, I mean large carrots. Remember I am juicing them. BTW: I drink between 500-750ml of the juice if that makes it easier. Some of the juice is drunk by my roommate so that reduces a little of the fruit, I suppose. I also try to incorporate chia and (ground!) flax seeds into recipes whenever I can.

Got you. Well how much juice will that make and why juice it instead of just eating it? You are losing out on the fiber.

That will make 750-1000ml. Juicing is a whole story in itself. I juice those because there's no possible way for me to sit down and consume all of that. It being in liquid form makes it easier for my stomach to digest, and obviously you are getting a lot more nutrients at a time. I don't need the fiber from the juice, I get my fiber from the other foods I eat, so this is not a problem. I highly, highly suggest incorporating juice into your diet.

Watch the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead for more information on that if you want. I've watched it at least 5 times.

I lucked up and found some spaghetti squash at the local produce stand, so I bought some.

Came home and made this:
Skinny Taste - Cheesy Spaghetti Squash

It certainly isn't Paleo friendly, but for those that love pasta, like I do, it was fantastic!

So happy to hear that you enjoyed! Eat all the cheese you can before next week, that's when the fun really begins!

BTW: the dish looks delicious!
