That's cool.
Have fun experimenting.
I like to try new things, but some things are just not for me - like throwing a piece of meat directly on charcoal.

i'm confused... i need to throw away my grate, buy a hand held bellows and a blow dryer to do just what the grate accomplished?

someone tried it, and lo and behold it tasted like arse. the next day the green egg was invented

I've done it. If done properly it works and tastes great. Have to use natural chunk, have to blow the ash off and get it nice and clean first. I usually do it with thinly slice skirt steak.

Well I tried it. Now while the meat did turn out good, it was a pain in the arse and I didn't notice any considerable difference or enhancement in flavor. I'll probably put this on the NO shelf.
