... it was just off of Tulane and Broad, directly across the street from the front of the Criminal District Court.

Place made the best egg rolls ever. The were fatter than usual, full of cabbage, roast pork, and shrimp. Great flavor profile ... had a little bite to it.

Their Lo-Mein was nothing to shake a stick at, either. The beef Lo Mein had a sauce that was rich and flavorful, and it was just enough to coat, moisten, and flavor the noodles ... which were just the right size and always cooked perfectly.

Man I miss that hole in the wall. If it were still there, it would definitely be on my list of mandatory stops in New Orleans.

I worked practically next door at the Tulane Avenue Law Center, but never ate there. I didn't like the looks of the place to be honest. If I had known they had a good egg roll, I would have tried it.

Oh, yes. It was a TOTAL hole in the wall, but it was one of those places where the food was of the quality that it outweighed the sketchy settings.

I remember a lot of Court Employees, Attorneys, and Law Enforcement being in there, eating side by side with Defendants. It was always funny because my best friend and i would drive down there from out in New Orleans East just to go get egg rolls. The food was that good.

The rule of thumb when it comes to Chinese in New Orleans seems to be the dumpier the place the better the egg roll. China Kitchen's on Carrollton are the bomb.

Yeah. I've heard about China Kitchen, but never had them myself. Same best friend that used to go with me to Tommy's Rickshaw later on lived on Carrollton a block or so from Jesuit, and he raved about China Kitchen ... but preferred Tommy's Rickshaw.

Another really dump of a place was Chinese Chef Kitchen on Chef Hwy in New Orleans East almost to read Blvd. Awesome food.

My dad had a small produce business and met the owner in the mid seventies at the french market. This restaurant was my introduction to Chinese food and is the standard that I judge others against.

Their egg rolls and hot and sour soup is the best I have ever had and I don't have hope that they will ever be eclipsed.

Still good after 40 years but the clientele has gotten really sketch.

I found the egg rolls very greasy. Never had the Hot and Sour, but i've been told their Yaka Mein is top notch.

I don't know if David the owner from 40 years ago is still there, but the egg rolls and hot and sour soup of the late 70's was incredible.

I have eaten there at least two times in the last year and found it to be a bit different from the past but good. The egg rolls were not greasy in any way. Maybe you caught them on a bad night.

Their barbequed pork was also very good.

Maybe. My wife works at Ochsner and the Ochsner folks head there in droves.
